German PFI spends EU 488 million on flight training simulation

The German government has agreed to a contract worth 488 million euros, to provide helicopter training for the German Armed Forces, as part of a Private Finanace Initiative. Helicopter Flight Training Services GmbH (HFTS) will provide three training centres and four simulators.

HFTS GmbH is a consortium jointly owned by CAE, Eurocopter, Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH and Thales. The contract will last until 2022.
