According to the Athens County News, officials in Athens County have had to apologise to a pressure group for using their cause in an emergency response exercise scenario.
The exercise, held on 11 December, at the Athens County Fairgrounds, had a scenario which “revolved around hypothetical anti-fracking extremists.” The Athens County Emergency Management Agency and Local Emergency Planning Committee apologized the next day, saying that: “”Were real sorry that there was a lack of sensitivity to people in our community working on that issue…. It was just wrong……I praise those folks who take the time to find out about our environment which is so important… For this to happen is a shame. Those folks didnt deserve that.”
Apparently a member of the Athens County Fracking Action Network heard of the exercise and requested an apology on the spur of the moment.
